Department of Biostatistics in Nanjing Medical University was reestablished in 2015, originally from Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. The discipline of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, where the department belongs, is one of the key disciplines in Jiangsu Province. We authorize both master degree and PhD degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. And the degree authorization of our department is the main component of both the postdoctoral research station and PhD degree authorization of the first-level discipline for Public Health and Preventive Medicine in Nanjing Medical University.

Department of Biostatistics is mainly responsible for the professional courses and graduation guidance for students of Applied Statistics (Biostatistics, Science). Simultaneously, it undertakes the teaching work of Medical Statistics across levels of A, B, and C, as well as Multivariate Statistics for undergraduates, continuing education, and postgraduates.

Based on the needs of new era, our department innovates the training concept, and put forward the training concept that biostatistics talents should have statistical thinking, communication ability, critical spirit and craftsmanship. We reform the training mode, expand the teaching method, and develop quality courses to improve the students' overall quality. We not only improve the quality of traditional statistics classroom and practice teaching, but introduce novel educational and teaching approach, including case teaching, PBL, TBL, MOOC and flipped classroom in the new era. We strengthen students' ability of design, analysis, and interpretation to integrate data acquisition, method selection, data analysis and conclusion expression in an all-round way. We expand the knowledge dissemination channels of traditional classroom teaching in an all-round way, make full use of new media and new means, and conduct knowledge dissemination and ability training more widely and deeply.
